Overview

Timetrekker is a mobile app designed to help college students manage schedules, tasks, and finances all in one place — personalized planning, budgeting, and resource tools built to reduce overwhelm and boost productivity.

The problem

College students are juggling academic work, extracurriculars, part-time jobs, and financial responsibilities — but most existing apps are fragmented. One app for scheduling, another for budgeting, and none of them speak to student life specifically.

How might we help students stay organized and financially aware, without adding more pressure?

Research

We interviewed 200 university students across different campuses in Nairobi to understand their routines and frustrations — one-on-one interviews combined with a wider survey to reach a bigger population.

The clearest signal: students want simplicity, visual clarity, and financial visibility — not another app to manage on top of everything else.

Core features designed

01Smart scheduler — import class times, work shifts, and personal events.
02Task manager — priority tags, due dates, progress indicators.
03Budget manager — daily spending log, savings goals, spending insights.
04Resource hub — mental health, career, and study guides in one place.

Design language

Clean, soft tones inspired by minimalism and student life. Rounded cards and large touch targets for accessibility. Visual progress indicators to encourage consistency, and microinteractions that make organizing feel rewarding rather than another chore.

Outcomes

Built a cohesive, reusable design system across InkedStudiosAfrica's products.
Validated flows through direct feedback from real university students.
90% of test participants described the app as "calming," "clear," and "helpful."

Building Timetrekker reaffirmed my belief that great design isn't about adding more — it's about reducing noise.
